It had to happen, calligraphy has gone all electronic on us.

Budding calligraphy artists with a Nintendo DS console now have the opportunity to try out their talent with the new Bimoji Training game. It was released in Japan on March 13, 2008 and is available for only $39.

Bimoji Training comes with a calligraphy pen-type stylus and takes you step by step through the process of creating calligraphic lettering. The game teaches users the correct creation of kanji characters featuring a total of 3,099 characters that are broken down into 8 skill levels.

I love the Product Notes that comes with the Bimoji Training Nintendo DS package: “If you’re learning under a human tutor, he/she will eventually tire of your ineptitude and start scolding, scowling, crying, and wailing about your lack of skill. By learning under the innocuous tutelage of the Nintendo DS, you move at your own pace and repeat each kanji character as often as you want until you’re satisfied.” How many of you out there have had to put up with a tutor wailing over your lack of calligraphy skill, hmmmm?

So, how have sales been going since the game’s release? Not bad actually. Last week  Nintendo’s DS Bimoji Training game sold 65,689 units.
